Starts every day – Minimum 2 persons

Early morning transfer to cars for the 3 hour journey to Tumbang Samba, a small regional centre located near where the Samba and Katingan Rivers join.  Lunch here, and then continue on to Tumbang Manggu, crossing the river with 2 car ferries. We pass by a boat building town on the Samba River and stop to look at the traditional methods of construction. Rarely visited by tourists, the longhouse, which is newly built in the traditional model, will give a Dayak welcome ceremony on arrival. Take an afternoon walk to the nearby forest to see the rubber trees cultivated by the villagers. Later in the evening we eat with the owners. Bapak Syer Sua is an elder of the village who wanted to create a centre for learning about Dayak culture, crafts and music and dance performance. He himself is an expert musician, and can often be heard on his suling, or bamboo flute. Rest on the broad terraces and stroll down to the river edge. The sleeping conditions are very simple – a mattress on the floor and a pillow. (Overnight longhouse)

After breakfast we set off on a stroll to explore the remarkable collection of painted sandungs, or bone houses, in this village. Meet the people and visit theKaharingan, or Dayak traditional religion, temple. Return to the Longhouse, pack your bags, and join you car for the return trip to Palangka Raya. Stop along the way for lunch and later to clamber over the rocky outcrop called Bukit Batu, and gaze over the 360 degree panorama of peat swamp forests in the late afternoon light.
