Come and explore a new destination and a different river and venture into the dense forest that is the Sebangau National Park, famous as a refuge for the largest remaining population of wild orangutans on Borneo. Following the boundary of the Park, the Katingan River, one of the longest in Central Kalimantan, we visit villages to experience traditional livelihoods and culture, explore mazes of black water lakes and finally venture into the forest and overnight in a comfortable lodge for your night wildlife walk.

Day 1               PALANGKA RAYA – PUNGGUALAS

This tour starts at 8am. Pick up from the airport or hotel and transfer to Jahanjang Village by car (approx 4 hours). Along the way we stop at the Rungan River for a short canoe ride to see orangutans on pre-release islands in the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation program. Enjoy a traditional Dayak grill fish lunch on the way. On arrival in Jahanjang port, we board the boat to cruise to the small access river Panggu Alas, changing to canoes for the final ride to the WWF Visitor Centre in the Sebangau National Park.  On arrival, settle into a simple guesthouse in Punggu Alas Camp and have a rest.  Night trekking  after dinner to see the nocturnal animals around the camp. Day 2               SEBANGAU NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, a local guide will take you do some trekking through the forest. Keep an eye out for the wildlife, especially wild orangutans and their nests, hornbills, ants nests, monitor lizards, and many others. These sightings cannot be guaranteed. After this walk, we pack bags and return with the canoes to the Spirit of Kalimantan. Enjoy lunch on board and a relaxing cruise to the down stream village of Telaga.  Visit the village and meet the people and learn about their livelihoods in this isolated village. Return to the boat and overnight in a quiet [B/L/D]

Day 3               PALANGKA RAYA – HOTEL CHECK IN

Early the next morning, we take local canoes for a visit to the Klaru River. Within the Katingan-Mentaya Project concession, this forest restoration area is great for watching proboscis monkeys and birds, or simply exploring the wonderful waterways of this black water system and marvelling at the perfect reflections. On returning to the boat, we now cruise upstream , returning to the port of Jahanjang, enjoying lunch on board. At the port, we transfer by cars to Palangka Raya, where we will leave you at your hotel or at the airport.(B/L)
