





Duration : 8 days/7 nights, fully catered simple local food.
Day 1 PALANGKARAYA – TUMBANG MIRIH
9 am Departure from Palangkaraya by taxi, crossing the Rainbow Bridge over the Kahayan River and heading north to the township of Tewah, stopping along the way in villages to marvel at the outstanding painted and carved bone houses or sandungs. After a short stop for lunch, the journey continues along bumpy roads to the township of Tumbang Mirih, right at the junction of the Kahayan and Mirih rivers. Rest overnight in a small local guesthouse or losmen.
Day 2 TUMBANG MIRIH – FOREST TREK
Board local klotok for the journey up the Kahayan River, stopping first at the town of Napoi and then Telunjuk. From here, the trekking begins. In the foothills of the Schwaner Mountain Ranges, walk over a hilly route through thick forest. Pass traditional gold miners to find your jungle campsite.
Day 3 TELUNJUK MOUNTAIN
Continue trekking to Telunjuk Mountain, and overnight in a camp.
Day 4 NAPOI – TUMBANG KORIK
Return to Napoi and begin journey to Tumbang Korik Longhouse. Option to continue trekking or to travel by local canoe via the Kahayan and Hampatung Rivers.
Day 5 TUMBANG KORIK – VILLAGES
Continue trek, passing villages along the river, finishing for the night in the Tumbang Korik Longhouse. Spend the night simply in this old longhouse, opposite the pretty Korik River. Bathe in the river and stroll through the village to meet the people, see the traditional decorated ‘sandung’ and local livelihoods.
Day 6 TUMBANG KORIK – BATU SULI – PALANGKARAYA
A long of travelling by boat and taxi to Palangkaraya. A feature is passing through the Kahayan River gorge to see the soaring Batu Suli Rock. Check in to hotel or guesthouse of your choice.
Day 7 PALANGKARAYA – ORANGUTANS
Morning rest, and afternoon canoe ride to see orangutans on release islands on the river. Return to your hotel for final evening – optional shopping for locally famous woven rattan mats and bags, or resin boats.
Day 8 DEPARTURE
Transfer to the airport for your flight.
Note : these treks through the jungle may be very wet, muddy and over unformed paths. Many small waterways have to be crossed by wading or balancing on logs. Good footwear and dry clothes are needed. Simple food is prepared in the camps and in the villages en route.
