Tumbang Gagu Jungle Trekking

Day 1:    Arrive in Palangkaraya and have lunch at the riverside Kampong Lauk Restaurant of barbequed local specialties. Sit in a little gazebo by the river and enjoy the passing river life. Travel to the port of Kasongan, to commence your speedboat journey along the Katingan  and on to the Samba Rivers to Tumbang Manggu village site of new longhouse of traditional construction, developed as Dayak cultural centre by its owner, artist and Dayak elder, Bp Syaer Sua. Have a short rest, a quiet dinner and join the family for a night of Dayak entertainment.

Day 2:    Early morning start to explore the village and its Kaharingan Temple, traditional carvings and learn about the unique burial practices or the tewah. Departure for overland travel to Tumbang Hiran then by klotok to Pendatanggaring Baru and by foot to Tumbang Gagu. This is the original home of Pak Syaer, an ancient longhouse on the upper reaches of the Katingan River.

Day 3:    Explore this unique ancient longhouse and its surroundings.  Overnight in the longhouse and share the lifestyle and stories of the traditional owners and inhabitants.

Day 4:    Morning spent enjoying the village and taking in the unusual remote village, inaccessible by road. Afternoon begin hike to Katingan River for your jungle camp overnight.

Day 5:    Continue walk to Katingan River for your boat trip downriver Riam Mangkikit, traditional Kaharingan holy place, and on to Kasongan for the road journey back to Palangka Raya

Longhouses, trekking and jungle camping adventure. Basic accommodation and food are provided by longhouse owners.

Including transfers from airport, all travel and accommodation as specified, food on  trip.
